Breeding Selection

Things that we hold dear when selecting for a breeding are temperament, drive, overall health and structure; while of course keeping the breed standard in mind at all times. It is very important for the preservation of the breed to adhere to the standard.

We feed quality food, keep our dogs clean, healthy and indoors, and provide proper veterinary care. None of our dogs live in crates, pens, basements or barns… they are part of our family. Our puppies are raised in our home in a sanitary, loving and happy environment. We do not over-breed our dogs, and we don’t breed for a living. We also place our trained and bred females in pet homes after 1-2 litters, and most of our stud dogs live in co-owner homes as only pets with great families.

About The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, sometimes referred to as “Staffy,” is a breed of dog that originated in England in the 19th century. The Staffy was created by breeding bulldogs and terriers for use in the sport of bull-baiting, which was banned in England in 1835. The breed was then used in illegal dogfighting, but eventually became popular as a family animal due to its loyalty, intelligence, and affectionate nature. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a medium-sized, muscular, athletic dog with a short, smooth coat that can come in a variety of colors. Despite its fighting past, the breed is known for its love of children and its gentle nature with people.

What Makes A Staffordshire Bull Terrier Champion?

Structure

Staffordshire Bull Terriers should have a well-balanced, muscular build with a deep chest and strong bone structure. Their head should be broad and deep with defined cheek muscles and a short foreface. Their ears should be rose-shaped or half-pricked. An ideal Staffy body should be compact and muscular, with a level topline and sprung ribs. The tail should be not too long or short.

Champion Staffies undergo extensive training to learn proper behavior, commands, and socialization skills. Proper obedience and responding promptly to their owner’s commands is important.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are known for their friendly, affectionate, and courageous nature. They should display confidence, be outgoing, and show no signs of aggression or shyness. A champion Staffie should have an excellent temperament and be well-socialized, displaying good behavior both in and out of the show ring.

A champion Staffordshire Bull Terrier should be healthy and free from any significant hereditary health issues. Responsible breeders perform health screenings and tests to ensure their dogs are free from common Staffordshire Bull Terrier health conditions, such as hip dysplasia, cataracts, and diseases.

What's Good About 'Em, What's Bad About 'Em

Most Staffordshire Bull Terriers will live peacefully with the dogs and cats in their own family. But many Staffords are more than willing to fight if challenged. Before bringing a Staffordshire Bull Terrier into a multi-pet household, you should honestly evaluate your other pets. If you already have a dominant dog, a Stafford is not a good choice for you. Staffords should be closely supervised around strange dogs – make sure the other dogs are not challenging yours.

Stubborn and sometimes headstrong, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is inclined to test for position in the family pecking order. Confident leadership and obedience training are musts.

Provide the strongest chew toys you can find to keep his powerful jaws busy and as an alternative to furniture.

The athletic Stafford can scale a six-foot fence, and when inclined, he can dig his way under.

This “buff little dude” is a stable, confident dog who needs supervision and control from an owner who can match his intelligence.
